Cover-Forward Reading

Your current reads live on the first tab as a cover-forward grid. Tap a cover to open its detail page, nudge your progress by pages or percent, or mark it finished. If you've set a yearly reading goal on Hardcover, a thin bar at the bottom shows your progress against it—no dashboards, no charts.

Three Shelves

Your Want to Read, Read, and Did Not Finish shelves are rendered as the same cover-forward grid, with a local search across title and author. The books you care about are always a tap away.

Progress in Seconds

Log a chapter in the time it takes to put your phone down. A single sheet to finish a book, set the date, and pick a half-star rating. No streaks, no badges, no "you're on fire!" notifications—just the quiet moment of noting you read.

Hardcover's Full Catalog

Search Hardcover's full catalog by title, author, or ISBN, sorted by popularity. Tap a result to add it to Want to Read or start reading it right away. Perfect for the book someone just recommended at a coffee shop.

Deliberately Narrow

Octavo is not a rewrite of Hardcover. No social feed, no followers, no review threads. No pace projections, no "books per month" histograms, no gamification. If you want any of those, hardcover.app is one tap away from the Settings screen. Octavo is for the day-to-day act of reading.

Private by Design

Sign in once with a personal API token from Hardcover. It stays in the iOS Keychain on your device and is only sent to Hardcover's API. No analytics, no trackers, no third-party accounts. Your library and reading history live on Hardcover's servers; Octavo is a view into them.

Octavo is for readers already inside Hardcover who want a quieter, faster way to keep it current from their phone. The app opens, lets you do the one thing, and gets out of the way.
